Body Mass Index (BMI) uses your height and weight to tell you whether you are a healthy weight, underweight or overweight. Your BMI result is not the perfect measure of your overall health. It can't tell if you're carrying too much fat, doesn't take into account age, gender or muscular build.
You could use your BMI result as a starting point for further discussion about your weight, diet and general health with your GP.
Please note: this embedded tool is designed to calculate BMI scores for adults aged 18 and over. To calculate BMI for anyone under the age of 18 please use the NHS children and teenagers BMI calculation tool.
